Guided support series for revising or developing program educational goals
In the fall 2022 semester and the spring 2023 semester, CTAL will host guided series to support UD faculty who are revising or developing program educational goals. Additionally, the Winter Institute on Learning in January 2023 will also include this support. All of these events are focused on supporting teams of faculty working together; the fall and spring series support one or two representatives of those teams whereas the Winter Institute on Learning directly supports all members of the teams who attend the institute.
Self-guided modules are also available for faculty who cannot attend these events or prefer to work on their own pace.
Similar support – guided programs in each semester and self-guided modules – is also available for faculty engaged in revising or creating program learning assessment plans.

Fall 2022 guided support series
In the fall 2022 semester, CTAL offered to host a series of 3 one-hour meetings spaced about 4 weeks apart. Participants were expected to commit to:
1. Form a team of faculty members committed to completing this work this semester. These teams are typically 3-5 members. This may be a new team or it may work well to work with an existing group such as a curriculum committee. Diversity of experience, knowledge, and viewpoint are critical elements in a successful team.
2. Engage in meaningful work during the three weeks between each one-hour session.
3. Send one or two representatives from the team to each of the one-hour sessions. In these sessions, we will provide materials, collegial advice, feedback, and opportunities to practice to prepare them for the work that should occur after that particular meeting.
The three one-hour meetings were scheduled for:
- Friday, September 16, at 3:00
- Friday, October 14, at 3:00
- Friday, November 11, at 3:00
We were open to meeting in-person or online and we offered to decide based on responses to the application.
Applications were requested by Monday, September 5. We offered to notify applicants by Friday, September 9, if their application had been accepted. (The selection process was not competitive; we were only unsure how many programs will apply and want to ensure that we have the resources to fully support all of the participants.)
2023 Winter Institute on Learning
The 2023 Winter Institute on Learning will be separate institutes offered online and in-person. Additionally, each institute is divided into two parts with the first part focusing on program educational goals and the second part focusing on program learning assessment. You and your colleagues are welcome to apply to one or both parts of either the online or in-person institute.
The first part of the online institute will be held on Tuesday, January 17, and Wednesday, January 18. The second part of the online institute will be held on Tuesday, January 24, and Wednesday, January 25. Each day of the online institute will require a 1.5 – 3 hour time commitment on Zoom working with CTAL colleagues in the morning and several hours in the afternoon working with faculty teammates.
The first part of the in-person institute will be held on Thursday, January 26. The second part of the in-person institute will be held on Friday, January 27. Each day of the in-person institute will begin at 9:00 or 10:00 and last until 3:00 or 4:00.
Applications for any part of the institute must come from small teams of faculty who teach in a specific degree-granting program (undergraduate or graduate). These teams are typically 3-5 members.
