Welcome Letter

Dear Colleague,

Whether it’s your first semester teaching at the University of Delaware or a part-time job you’ve enjoyed for many years, the professionals at the Center for Teaching and Assessment of Learning (CTAL) are ready to help you with your teaching and assessment needs.  Historically, we have not always been as active we would like in supporting UD educators other than full-time faculty.  You too deserve our full support so we’re changing things to make our services and resources more accessible to you beginning with the enclosed USB drive that contains resources to assist you with your teaching.

Additionally, CTAL provides many services with a few that I’d like to highlight:

First Friday Roundtables on teaching are a collaborative University of Delaware program aimed at highlighting varied approaches of teaching, learning and assessment practices. The series hosts monthly discussions for faculty and graduate students. During Fall and Spring semesters, events are normally offered from 3:30-5pm on the first Friday of the month when the semester starts.

Teaching and Learning Conversations (TLCs) are lunchtime meetings that provide opportunities for members of the UD teaching community to discuss and exchange ideas about inclusive teaching and learning. CTAL staff will provide resources and information to support conversations.

Syllabus Clinic provides a structured opportunity for you to receive consultation to help you re-focus and re-create your syllabus into one that is learning centered.

The Faculty Commons is a physical and virtual hub in Newark (Pearson Hall 116) for UD educators to meet, collaborate, and relax.  In addition to the many events held there, our colleagues in Academic Technology Services are available to assist with technology questions.  The Faculty Commons Book Club also meets there approximately three times per semester to discuss books relevant to U.S. higher education and UD.

Additionally, we are available in the evenings in our office in Newark to provide you with teaching consultations by appointment.  Please call 302-831-2027 or send an email to CTAL-info@udel.edu with your request.

Make sure that you visit this CTAL site for additional resources as we update them.

We look forward to supporting all of you throughout the year and wish you great success at UD.

Best wishes for a successful semester!

Kathy Pusecker
